About

I look at a business the way an engineer looks at a system.

Hi there! I’m Kudakwashe Verah, and I am currently completing a Master of Science in Business Analytics and Applied AI at Quantic School of Business and Technology (expected 2027). I am a Business Intelligence & Strategy Consultant based in Gauteng, South Africa, and my foundation is Industrial Engineering: measuring work, understanding flows and constraints, and designing systems that perform reliably.

Since January 2024 I have applied that foundation as a Business Process Consultant at WGH Consult, supporting reporting for about 9 active clients across 28 systems and 80+ production reports — reconciling financial and operational data, and improving the processes that produce reports, not only the reports themselves. From August 2025 to September 2026 I also worked as an independent BI and operations consultant for a client in the telecommunications/ICT sector.

The common thread is a question I ask early in every engagement: what would measurably improve, and how will we know?

Systems thinking

A late report, a reconciliation gap or a scrap problem is usually a symptom, not the cause. Before deciding what to change, I map the whole system: its people, processes, data and technology.

Industrial Engineering

Process mapping, time studies, root-cause analysis and system modelling. These tools work as well on an HR reporting cycle as on a PET preform production line.

BI and analytics

Power BI, DAX, Power Query and SQL, used to build reporting that is reconciled to source and designed around the decisions it supports.

Training and mentoring

Over time I have trained 15+ team members in Power BI, Power Query, DAX and SQL, in reporting processes, and in spotting improvement opportunities in the work they do.

As a consultant, I treat handover as part of the deliverable: documented models, clear definitions and people who can maintain the work after I leave.

Experience

  1. Jan 2024 – present

    Business Process Consultant

    WGH Consult, Pretoria, South Africa

    • Support reporting operations for about 9 active clients, spanning 28 systems and 80+ production reports across HR, IT and finance.
    • Personally migrated 6 reports to Azure Synapse, building and testing the external tables and identifying data-lake loading errors for BI developers to resolve.
    • Redesigned a recurring HR reporting cycle, cutting average cycle time by 89% — from 1,069.6 to 117.4 minutes across ten measured cycles each — for a report now used weekly.
    • Built cash-up reconciliation reporting that covers 120+ retail stores in one view, across the current month and the three preceding months.
    • Standardised SQL views with reusable Common Table Expressions (CTEs), so changing client reporting requirements are absorbed without rewriting each view.
    • Trained 15+ team members over time in Power BI, Power Query, DAX and SQL, in reporting processes, and in spotting improvement opportunities in their own work.
  2. Aug 2025 – Sep 2026

    Independent BI and Operations Consultant

    Independent consulting, Remote

    • Delivered reporting initiatives for a telecommunications/ICT client — from stakeholder requirements through implementation and enhancement — across finance, retail, HR, ICT and operations.
    • Developed executive and operational reporting that supports customer analysis, management decisions and the investigation of inventory weaknesses.
  3. Jan 2022 – Jul 2024

    Systems & Property Operations

Die Werf Body Corporate, South Africa

    • Led the migration to a safer digital access-control system serving 90+ residents.

  4. Jul 2022 – Oct 2022

    Workforce Management Intern

    EPI-USE Africa, South Africa

    • Translated mock business requirements into 3 configured UKG Dimensions implementation solutions, building practical experience in workforce-management systems and requirements-driven solution design.
  5. Dec 2020 – Feb 2021

    Industrial Engineering Intern

    Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited, Zimbabwe

    • Used data collection, exploratory analysis and root-cause analysis to investigate raw-material waste on a beverage production line, presenting data-backed recommendations with estimated potential savings of approximately US$10,000.

How I work

Five stages, used on every engagement.

  1. 01

    Understand

Learn how the business works, which outcome matters and who owns the decision.

Stakeholder conversations, current reports and the decision each one supports.

  2. 02

    Diagnose

Map the process and data, measure a baseline, and find the root cause — not the loudest symptom.

Process mapping, timing studies, data profiling and root-cause analysis.

  3. 03

    Design

Design the process, model or system that removes the cause, with the people who will use it.

Requirements, data models, workflow redesign and agreed definitions.

  4. 04

    Deliver

Build, test and validate against source, then document and hand over.

Reconciliation to source, automated tests where possible, handover notes.

  5. 05

    Improve

Measure the result against the baseline and keep improving what the numbers show.

Before-and-after measurement, monitoring and a short improvement backlog.
